If it's purely audio, then how do you know who's sending the tell? By the sound of their voice?

How do you recognize someone's voice that you've never heard before?

If you do recognize their voice, how come you don't know who it is if a camo'd ranger you've spent half your life grouping with is the one sending the tell?

How come you can hear and carry on group/cabal communications while sleeping?

My take on it: telepathic communications aren't verbal. They aren't audible in any sense. They convey thoughts, some explicit, some implicit. This is how you automatically know that it's Azzkikr the Swordpupil who's asking you if you "want 2 gr?" and not your hero friend.

I see nothing at all wrong with intransitive *actions* in tells and such.

I'm not a big fan of transitive ones like *hug*, *smack* or *stabs you with a knife*, because that violates the logic of this. But the sense that the person is winking, or nodding, or whatever, could easily be conveyed telepathically along with their identity and the content of the message.
