What a sad post (I mean that sympathetically, not mockingly) -- just realize that most of the characters you probably considered (in)famous or prodigal in some way or another were probably just having fun playing the game. Most people that are good at what they're doing on CF are that way because they love what they're doing. Just have fun with your characters, invest as much as you're comfortable with into them and reap what you sow.
