I think "warrior"s post says it quite well.
in addition most leaders will/should make sure that the members of battle are focussing on what they should be fighting (ie mages).

charred bracers have been ok with some leaders and not with others. - I think the imms are not liking charreds now though.

some consider only things that speak/cast spells etc to be not allowed.

The mold dosent really exist - Of the roughly 20 people I interviewed, only one or two had actually had their parents killed by mages. Most had quite interesting and innovative reasons for hating mages.

Im pretty sure from what what I know of Barsimmon is that you will be able to play a grey character in the village.. it dosent mean you wont conflict with some of the other villagers though... after all some are barbarians to the core
