Disclaimer: None of the following is to suggest that Cador isn't/wasn't human, didn't have off days or make mistakes or errors in judgement now and then like anyone else.

In general, I thought Cador was a pretty good guy. He worked his way up and became an Imm at a time where (from what I know) there actually was a fair bit of corruption in the system and he wasn't shy about trying to clean it up. He had a hand in some way in the vast majority of the changes and additions in the game while he was around.

The thing that, I think, really got the man the reputation is that he would be extremely straight up with you. If he thought you had done something stupid, he would just come right out and say "You just did something stupid." (or sometimes "You just did something fucking stupid.") He wouldn't dance around or try to spare your feelings. As a result of that, I think he ended up as the nominated "bad guy" in a lot of situations. Maybe all of the elder immortals would think a hero's area was just the worst edifice of crapulence ever created, but we wouldn't want to tell the guy "Dude, this thing f'in blows goats." Cador would be the guy who ended up having to break the news. He would rather smack you and tell you what he thought you did wrong in just about any situation and hope you got it right next time.

Like someone else said, once that snowball gets rolling, soon everything an immortal does that someone doesn't like is Cador.
