In Reply to: Hmmm... How much time would would you say you spent spamming spells? How hard was it to take your hero-level hp away when you had all your shields up? posted by FizZle on August 22, 2000 at 10:20:24:

Lemme preface by saying that I played a Master during Dhaevor and I think Minalcar's reign of the ragers, when there were a good number of ragers around at all times, even a few 'elite' ones I guess. My elf invoker was also my first Master, first invoker, and first caballed mage period.

It took me about 120 hours to hero with all spells up to my shields perfected. Of course I had tome which I'm sure helped a little, but often when I was levelling I'd lose my tome much too far away from the Tower to get another, and in those times I still learned pretty fast. Total time spent spamming spells outside of levelling was probably 50-60 hours. With how long elves can live if you aren't constantly getting killed, that's a drop in the bucket.

At hero I had 421 hp naked. I always levelled up with full con, so I think maybe I just got unlucky quite a few times. With transform, my shields, a fly potion and some somewhat common hp stuff I could always last long enough to escape from anything besides a rager gangbang which happened about once a day =( At the time I knew where roughly zero wands were, so if you are smarter than I was it shouldn't be too much problem. But by the same token there will be many times you wish you had the extra 200 hp of a gnome or the wider range of oh so sweet mage gear that neutrals and evils can use.

Basically, if you like playing elves like I do then go for it. If you looking to thrive as an invoker, especailly on your first go around, I'd suggest gnome or human.
