Forget about armor class, that is only useful at really low ranks (in case you are not aware, these are the first 4 numbers). What you would need as an conjurer is hp (to survive all the people who hate you) and mana (to make some big ass monster servitors) for starters. As you rank up a bit, you probably need some stuff to increase your charisma to max, since you can't roll max, and some stuff to resist all those nasty spells (casted by the people who hate you as mentioned above) with... save spell. That is pretty much it. Save paralysis can be pretty nice as well to resist halt person and hold person, but it is not that important, since there is a lot fewer muters around than there used to be.
In your example, yes, 20 hp are very worthwhile. The other item is nearly useless for you.
