Shamans have a tendency not to get a lot of mana, even though their intelligence are high, so you don't really get the full benefit of the high intelligence of a drow. You will end up getting lousy hp AND mana, and that is something not many players can take.
Good shaman races tend to be the ones with a high con so they can last a bit longer in battle.
If played right a drow shaman can be as deadly as anyone, but I'd prefer a duergar anyday... Detect hidden rocks for a shaman, they get more health and they can use that nifty wrath vuln removing shield...
