Well, in my opinion, it was certainly a good
thing to have around. True, Anti-Paladins
are not defined in their class as being
dirty tricksters who'd never fight you on
open ground, but as far as morality goes,
that seems like it's more defined by cabal,
religion, etc.
I think mostly it disintegrated because
of A-P's killing each other in the guild,
nasty sh*t like that. Once upon a time,
yes, in the Second Age, I think, there was
still a somewhat informal alliance among
the Knights of Evil, called The Brotherhood
of Legion. Notice the Anti-Paladin titles,
if they haven't changed? Knight of Legion,
Footman of Legion, etc.
"We come swiftly on the wings of shadow,
we are the Lords of the Night; that which
all men fear most. We strike terror into
the stoutest of hearts and cause the bravest
to wake screaming in the night, for we are
a reflection of the Evil that lurks in your
own heart. No lighted house provides solace
from our withering grasp, no lock nor shutter
bars our entrance into the deepest realms
of your fear. We are the foul, the vision
of Hell that rides unfettered through the
land of dreams. We come for the blood of
the living, and no stalwart shall deny us
our feast. We are the tears of the wretched
innocent who kneel weeping over bodies of
kinsmen and lost love, we are the blood-
curdling howl in the empty void of the Night.
We are the Brotherhood of Legion."
Well, that's MY vision of the Anti-Paladin,
anyway. If Paladins abide by a strict code,
and the Anti-Paladin Academy room instructs
that the morality and guiding light of those
wretched, putrescent fools is to be culled
from the land so that the strong may grow and
prosper, then shall not the Anti-Paladins
adhere to a militancy among the shadows? I
love the idea of the Legion, and I wish it
would find purchase once more in Thera.
