In Reply to: Thanks, I guess your right I don't even know what makes barriers, but still doesn't explain only 4 powers, unless scourge really is 3? n/t posted by NewbieGuy on August 29, 2000 at 14:01:53:
Scourge is "fireball, weaken, blindness and poison". I'm not exactly sure how many rounds of lag you get hit with when you cast scourge, but it's definitely less than if you tried to do all of those at one time. I haven't played a Master in a very very long time, so I speculate that you can fail any of those four, but if you continue to cast it you will still damage them with fireball, even if you fail the other three VERY USEFUL maledictions. Blindness reduces their hit roll, poison and weaken will usually disarm someone... It's a very useful spell. That's my take on why they only have a few powers in comparison to other cabals. That and magical control is kind of powerful if you think about it. Good luck, keep the questions coming... (and try not to pay attention to asses like Graham that constantly berate people and in a sense inhibit others from posting.) For example, transform: You said it "was just as good as barrier and so didn't really count as a cabal power." > > Let me ask you, since you are a Newbie: Can you, seriously, locate and stock up on enough barrier rods to keep barrier going for your entire character's life past level 10? No way in Hell. Transform is "only as good as barrier" for the .5% of the playerbase that are just that "elite". > > So, if you choose Master, you are basically getting the effects of Barrier without having to have a constant supply of the items and without having to get them, and at a MUCH lower level than you have to be to use them. (Hence, the rationale for people calling Master a "newbie friendly" cabal -- which is debatable, as you'll see when you read the thread I referred you to.)
