Ok, if you have golem and mummy you should already be doing well.

First of all, you will need some protections.
I personally found (aura OR shield) AND stone skin AND
wraithform sufficient. Of course, if you can afford both aura and shield,
and even maybe a protection scroll or potion or item, it
will be even better. You do not need transform, remember: if you
can't do it without transform, you can't do it with transform.

Second thing is: PERFECT YOUR VAMPIRIC TOUCH.
This is the most important spell for a necro at mid-ranks.

Third: Try to sleep the bastard. Better to be caballed, of course,
so that you can flee/return/try again, otherwise you can try
to blind him first, then try sleep. If you don't have your
sleep/spellcraft mastered, you may want more protections.
Remember to wait for your golem and mummy to flee before
you return (scan command is very convenient).

Fourth: Have your parry mastered (or near), wield sword
(also mastered or near), and practice hand to hand at least to
71%. The more the better.

Fifth: After all maledictions except maybe crimson scourge
(you can get it youself, brr...) and forget (does not affect
the mob anyway), it looks much easier. Just make sure you
have enough mana and spam vampiric touch. For me it worked
most of time. Remember, the lag after it is two rounds.

Sixth: remember that you will most likely fail to animate it
no matter if you embalm it or not. BTW, I didn't notice that
embalmed corpses are beeter animatable, though most necros say
otherwise.

Hope it helps.
