Everything he said was right on in my opinion. I actually enjoy talking to all the hopefuls. It allows me to interact with someone outside of the normal people I talk to*not that I don't enjoy that* and it seems to me with every quality interaction my role and that of the other persons becomes that much more defined. I think that would apply with any character. I'm pretty sure the other Maran won't be upset if you send them tells wanting to talk. I wouldn't bother servants for the most part because they are for the most part far from Maran. > Well - here are my suggestions for your consideration: > 1. Commit to 400 hours for your character. Don't make the mistake of Imbrogno and other people that get discouraged too quickly. Which leads me to ... > Think of yourself as writing a book about your character for Shokai to look at and review - and keep in mind you're not trying to win brownie points, you're just building a story behind your character, which ensures (a) you're going to stick around and not waste the time it takes for Shokai to talk to you/tattoo you, and (b) you're going to have more fun playing. What I'm trying to say is, if you're the kind of person that needs constant validation and approval, then the Maran probably isn't for you - you're not going to get that like you will with other cabals. Don't expect recognition or a tattoo, or any special "powers," just be grateful if they happen along the way. > Oh yeah, and, obviously, RP is more than staged conversations. You don't need to talk to people to RP. You can RP with the gear you wear, you can RP with the mobs/PKs you kill, you can RP with your role, you can RP with the foods you eat, anything at all. > I hope I helped.
> 2. Joining the Maran shouldn't be your ultimate goal. That is just the beginning. Make your ultimate goal something larger, like, no less than the utter eradiction of everything that is at all seeped in shadow and the eternal triumph of the Light, so that you can finally lay down and rest. I suggest this because if you set your goal at becoming a Maran, you might be disappointed and lose interest in the character. Also, a higher goal will keep you playing for hours and hours until he comes around to tattooing you, which will by then be icing on the cake to your RP/fun.
