Sometimes there is, in my opinion. (t):

There are at least three reasons for TIOFYFS:

1) Sometimes, the questioner is just being lazy. In your case, if you have ambush, and you have dirt, and you just got the echo that you can't ambush someone who can see you..... it really isn't so hard to check for yourself. When potential answerers recognize that you are being lazy, it can make them grouchy, because now they are spending time helping someone who really could help themselves. (*) Personally, I usually ignore these types of questions.

2) Sometimes, the answerer is just plain wrong. While the CForum populace usually jumps in and berates a spreader of misinformation, there is still no guarantee that the info you get here is better than what you could have verified for yourself.

3) Sometimes, you stumble onto a little unanticipated gem while playing around. As you test things for yourself, you develop a sharper eye for the game, and how it works. I had a recent "light bulb goes on" incident like this just yesterday, trying to figure out how to practice something that has in the past been a pain for me to practice. (I also Forum Searched this topic, and the answer given was good.... but not as good as what I figured out.)

That being said, this applies to stuff you can quickly check yourself. It annoys me when someone asks a question ("How viable are utility majors?" or something) and they get told to TIOFYFS, because it would require them nearly heroing a trannie, mastering shapeshift, and playing around with their major form to really get a good feel for how well -one- of them works. But for dirt/flee/ambush.... I think you could have handled that one.

(*): This is why I champion the "Forum Search" link as well. Answering the same question repeatedly also makes me grouchy.
