A prime stat is the stat that influences the character the most. An Assassin with 5 dexterity won't do well in a fight. An Assassin with 5 intellect will do just fine.

It quite simply does not make sense for Constitution to be the prime stat for a Ranger, for they are a physical race and as such strength dictates how their abilities work.
