Often times, when I played a rager, they wouldn't just give it to a rager, because they knew I didn't agree with their use of magic (most often the clothes they wore). They would send me a tell, the codex is going to be at the giant's feet in just a second. So I would go back to the village and find it there, and what good rager isn't going to down the codex? Come on? I mean even if the paladin or shaman gave the codex to me in person wearing casting clothes, I would still down it and try to convince them that they do not need the clothes, and still down the codex. Most often though, the paladin I delt with in the days of my ragers, would just make sure that they were not wearing any casting clothes when I was around. Then I really couldn't say much to em. Maybe Garenth and Balarhd were just smart like that too. My thoughts though. Boogs.
