Back in the days when the code on deletion was a little more relaxed, I personally saw (not just once or twice, either. . .I'd say about once, twice a month?) someone maledicted up the wazoo or beaten badly and low on move or other similar "dead man walking" type situations delete rather than be PKed. About half the time the deletee would make a swordpupil or something to come back and send the attacker taunting tells, causing me to slap them down in some way (usually a ban . . . not much you can do after that deletion) for multicharing.

Now, personally, I would see this and think. . ."Okay, bozo, you didn't take that one death and 1/3 con loss but uh. . .that level 48 character is gone for good now. . .how was that a good idea?" The things people do for bragging rights, I guess.

Don't get me wrong. There are a fair number of players I really like. . .but the lowest common denominator is a lot lower than you'd like to think.
