I'm pretty sure that when the game crashes, and you log back in after the crash, the game just reverts you back to the last autosave. This is pretty much the same thing that would have happened if you had used the quit command to log out at the same time. I really don't think the game differentiates between a crash and a usual log out, but I could be wrong.
