Just picked up the new 3rd edition dungeons and dragon books, and started thinking. I know, the smoke was so bad, I had to open the windows. ;)

Reading through, my first though was.. 'my god, wouldn't it be frightening if CF mages had a set number of spells they could cast, and had to memorize them at the start of the "day".' Unprepped mages would get tooled, but the fear of the prepared mage... Of course, it would mean invokers would have to think about what they need, instead of spamming nova at everything. ;)
Of course, I'm of the state of mind that mages' higher level spells should require a component of some sort to cast (ie Necro's pwk).

But my first real idea was, of course, for bards. Masters of the voice, why shouldn't they get a skill comparable to the spell Ventriloquate. Make it as difficult/logical to get as you want. IE, make bards have to perfect a capella first..? Just a thought. Make it difficult to learn/practice, etc.. as bitchy as everyone says Shapeshift is. In the right hands, it can have a lot of use, or, it could be completely useless. But for a bard who is interested in mastery of the voice, filling a room, etcetera, tell me why not..

Druid: Evil, I know. Add a commune: heat (or chill) metal. No, not as powerful, say, as walking into Kiadana. Or, make it possible to be that powerful based on cumulative casting. Metal (say in a sword), did come from the ground originally, it's just been purified and altered. Some of the same innate earth power remains in it, which a druid could likely tap (transmute metal to wood, for instance). They cannot use metal themselves, but if they understand the properties enough to transmute it to wood, why not to heat or chill it?

Paladins: Do they get some sort of resistance/immunity to fear? IE: Against bard song nightmare. Separate from the charisma/int thing. Paladins are supposed to be known for walking in where others fear to tread. Of course, the lack of fear is supposed to come with the divine knowledge that you please your god(dess) or stick to your basic ideal.

Okay, as I said, flame away.

- Tharena, getting a chance to read because I've been praying and getting little-to-no response... =P
