Actually, Anti-Magic shield won't help you if you are vulnerable. You'll still be vulnerable, and fire spells will still pass through it (ask any old-time Arial Invoker how much AMS helped them survive chain lightning).

I'm agreeing that the best method is finding one of the rare resist-heat items, or lagging and/or tigerclawing the mage in question.
