Legsweep lags precisely as long as trip does. It does indeed do more damage. It does NOT work on flying opponents. It used to, when warrior specs first went in. This was changed after a few months (by, say... January 1998).

So why use legsweep if you can trip?

1) It does more damage (hey, every bit counts).
2) It's skill-based, not stat-based. Trip takes into account your dex. vs. their dex. I'm pretty sure from my experience that legsweep is just a pure skill check, or something close to that. So you might have more luck legsweeping a drow or the like than you would tripping them.
