This is an important part. If you are behind a firewall, you likely connect to the Web through a local proxy server. If this is the case, note that there *is* a log kept of every single URL you access from your workplace. Whether or not these are actually monitored is a different matter, and up to company policy. In my experience, they're only really checked when particular situations arise (e.g. "Hey, my secretary never seems to get any work done, but (s)he's always doing something on that PC."), though there are probably active filters of some sort that watch for words in URLs that might indicate porn sites.

As evidenced by the obscene number of posts I've made during the past few summers, this hasn't deterred me, and I've had no negative consequences as a result. But in theory, there's no way to really hide what you're doing via a company connection if your employer wants to find out. You could technically use a modem and dialup to a local ISP from work if you want secrecy/privacy, but that's about it, and probably not worth the trouble.

PS: Hey, I use Macs too. :P
