If you've aiming to rank to hero, I say fire. I've learned to pity the vertically-challenged-holy-lighted-crispy duergar.

Of course, you could do very well with a duergar warrior if you've the skills, but all in all, fire is an easier choice to play. Anyway, between them, this is the comparison that would lead me to think it's way easier to play a fire:

two-hand weapons with one hand.
can swim.
easily-compensated-for-vuln.
resist.
size-for-lots-of-advantages.

At hero, all around, I like fire, myself.
