If you are trying a new class chances are the first time you play it you will be best off using a human. Dont spend a lot of time practicing (with 20 int most things will come along ok just from ranking) and dont really try to do anything special with your roleplay, although if you find yourself in the situation for it, go for it. I would also suggest uncaballed. Rank as fast as you can. It is not necessary to hero but try to get all the skills/spells/supplications available to you. As a human the advantage of heroing is largely diminished anyway because they dont come with a rank penalty (difference in ranks makes a huge impact on fighting). Once you have done this, although your character may have not, probabaly will not have, performed to your hopes, you will have a good feel for the class, its strengths and weaknesses, and what you are looking for, which is what is really improtant. If you dont like the class at this point, you can go on to something else having ranked fairly quickly and not having stopped at every level to perfect everything only to realize you hate the class. If enjoying it, go ahead and keep playing it. When your ready to roll up another one, you will understand what you felt was lacking in your last character and what its strengths were so you can make a good assessment of what race and cabal will benefit it the most. Then come up with a idea of your role and off you go. IMHO
