Best contribution to the Log Board in a long time: Malaglen. 1) He posted a ton of incredible logs. Period. 2) He edited out the really secret stuff. It's not an instruction manual for how to be as good as he is. But it was a teaser. He gave you the results, and left you to think about how he did it, with plenty of hints along the way. 3) He didn't have an agenda. He wasn't posting to shame another player. He wasn't posting to show how much ass he kicked. (Some logs didn't go well for him.) He was just posting the things he found interesting. (So did we.) 4) He waited until deletion. I like that. It gives you a picture of the character, but not at the time it would throw anything off OOC. If you wanted to fight Malaglen, you had to do it without the benefit of the log board. If you wanted to interact with him, you had to do it for IC reasons. 5) He gave concise, useful commentary, and edited out the boring awful stuff like long walks. (A certain tranny's minor form logs come to mind.) So why aren't there more Malaglens? My hypothesis: A lot of the better players want to protect their "edge". They don't want anyone else to even have a hint of what they're doing to kick so much ass. And that's a shame. If you're really good, like Malaglen is, you know that giving out pointers isn't ever going to make anyone better than you. It might make them better in an absolute sense, but only if they follow up with their own effort. Since Malaglen can do the same, he stays ahead, and he keeps a lot of newer players hungry. They see what can be done, and they want it. It's good for the game in so many ways. Thanks, Malaglen.
