As long as you have free left hand(or 2-handed weapon) you will do claw attacks.
Main problem with polearm spec felar is not what you could not wield most polearms.
It is what distance is str/size based. You would not tank very well (compared with staff).
And how much -str really depends on weight of your weapon. Certain weight of weapon requires certain actual str (for any race). So wear as much +str as you can. Or if you could find weapon with zero weight you would never str loose it.
Also : Get demon faced talisman and some +str items, and figure actual number by yourself.
