I think if the person that played Palan wanted to play a paladin today he probably wouldn't pick a duergar. If detect hidden is what he wanted he'd be an arbiter like Jerith.

The shield of darkness isn't near enough to deal with neo-paladins and all your wands and shit will get dispelled probably right at the very beginning.
