> First I'd like to address the recent 'cf isn't as good as it used to be' mentality that's being spread around the forum as of late. I disagree, it's easy to look back at 'when I first played' and think, wow...those were the golden days. However, very rarely are things as we remember them. I dearly loved when I knew very little of the game, and had that wild-eyed wonder about it all...and let's face it, the game was a little easier. This mentality isn't limited to the CF playerbase... People tend to look to the past for comfort for some reason, as if things were really that much better "back then." I've heard people say that the 1960's were a great time, and they wouldn't stop talking about how one could leave their doors unlocked (or even wide open) without having to worry about someone walking in and pulling off a home invasion robbery. Maybe this is true, but also, in the 1960's, there was plenty of political/civil rights turmoil, among other things. In short, I don't believe that there ever was a "Golden Age" and I doubt that there ever really will be, in CF or in the real world. There will ALWAYS be something that could be better, or something that shouldn't be, because perfection is something to strive for, but not something that can be achieved. For me, mudding is something that I can do after a shitty day to relax, or something that I can do when I'm just in the mood to mud. I play CF to have fun. I mean, Christ... I have enough drama and peer-pressure crap in my life, so I really don't ever plan on involving myself in or even giving the slightest bit of serious attention to any sort of that kind of stuff on an *internet-based forum* about a *game* between people that don't feel that their own social lives are enough. (I'm talking about the people who use the forum as a place to voice their own personal emotional agonies and gripes, using CF as an excuse to do so) > Since I'm rambling, I'll also...and as much as I'd like to think it's the last time, I know it won't be, say there are no immortal conspiracies. Trust me, I'm not as clueless as I seem to be....nor am I one to just trust anyone. I'll admit I don't see everything that people do...but i see quite a bit of it. You've got a good staff running this game, and more to the point...you have a human staff running this game. We're human, treat us like it...and for those of you who have the anti-authority hang ups, please...we're human. None of the immstaff is out to get anyone, we all have people we dislike for various reasons (and they vary greatly from person to person), but we'd be in poor shape if we let that get in our way of running this game. All I can say is that I never cheated (well, since that one multi-charring incident that I got double-denied/sitebanned for a few days for when I first started playing about 2 years ago...) and I've always done my best to have fun, stay IC and not ruin anyone else's fun, and I've never been yelled at or treated unjustly. I honestly don't think that any of the Imms are assholes that are on a bizarre sort of artificial power-trip, though I can't say that I'm sure of this for all of them, but I can say that I don't have any complaints that would be based on personal experience. Anyways, thanks for something fun and free. > Flame away... > "....just make sure I'm around
> Well, as with the staff, the playerbase...the game itself has grown up a lot. Is this bad? I don't think so. Does it make it harder to become 'elite' (whatever the hell that word means, since we -- the general CF populace -- can't even decide on a meaning for the damned word). Yes. Here's my question though, are you playing this game to be elite? Or are you playing to have fun? We all want to have a character that is remembered, loved, feared, loathed, etc...but I think a lot of times there's this push from the vocal few here on the forum, who can't see past thier own inabilities to just play and enjoy the game, to be better. May I be the first to say, this is crap. Play to enjoy yourself, play to enjoy the game...to hell if you're remembered well, or remembered at all.
> Let's see, next up...the focus of the game. A few weeks ago someone asked on the newbie channel 'how do you win the game?'...and after I boggled a bit, and came close to firing off a sarcastic comment, I thought about the question. I realised it's the same damned question I see asked on this forum quite frequently....I see the question of 'what's the best race for this class' or 'what's the best cabal for this race/class'...for the love of god people! What class do you want to play? What race do you want to play? What cabal do you want to play? I'll admit even I'm guilty of listening to the peer pressure of the forum from time to time. When I deleted Grislan I remember in the back of my head actually thinking 'oh crap, I'm going to get roasted on the forum'...how shiteful is that? To address the concern that CF is based on heroing...it's not. That's a misconception, you should be enjoying the ride to hero, and then just continue the flow once you're there. To me, it's not about who can be the most powerful, or who can be the best of the best...it's about when all is said in done, you being able to sit back and say 'hey that was fun.'
