In Reply to: Is that anything like imagining a MUD where you have some areas from Tolkien, some from Jordan, and some from Salvatore? (n/t) posted by *snicker* on November 3, 2000 at 15:53:30:
Three completely different styles of writing... Hubbard wrote "Battlefield Earth" and the "Mission: Earth" series, completely science fiction, not fantasy. Asimov wrote the "Foundation" series, a completely different type of science fiction than Hubbard (and vastly superior IMHO) involving alien races, robots, and the development of the human race after leaving a dying earth. And Jordan is mostly fantasy (WoT, Conan). The three you mention are strictly fantasy, with Jordan oft times being compared to Tolkein, and Salvatore writing in the AD&D universe for the most part, a place where last I checked, dragons, dwarves, and elves were the mainstay of the population. However, seeing as how you may not have been aware of this, and this perhaps being the only qualm you had with my post, perhaps the rest of my point was made. Harlequin
