If this were true, one would expect that the old school elites would no longer stick out. If Ty Cobb were around now, he wouldn't be batting .400, eh? That was nice and rambly.
Not so for CF. Were, say, Gareth still around, to pick a random example, I can definately assure you that he'd kick MORE ass than he did in ye olden days, precisely because the quality of opposition has dropped drastically. Maybe it's an increased focus on RP, maybe it's something else, but the fact is quite simple: The current playerbase lacks kickass players. Ask Challen whether there are people now who are as much of a challenge as there were 2 years ago. (and no, it's not an experience improvement for him thing). Generally speaking, if there's a character beating much ass, like Leika or something, you can be fairly sure it's an imm- not because they're cheating, but because they're the only old-school kickass players who haven't left CF. I'm above average. I don't consider myself great. But the average CF hero is completely, utterly nonthreatening and I know I can wreck them 95% of the time. The 'upper echelon' of CF in PK has largely left, and as a result there IS a lot more balance in terms of 90% of people being pretty close to each other in PK terms. I've given up on PKing largely, mostly because it's just no challenge: 90% of the CF players just aren't very good and triumphing over them is like beating a blind, retarded kid at chess. Sure, you can do it, but it's not very exciting.
