There are no *bad* weapon selections for your standard warrior, they all have advantages and disadvantages, with a large selection of mid-to-high power weapons available for each.

I wouldn't recommend using swords for felars (since they missout on several key sword skills without being able to dual wield). Other than that, you can do rather well choosing whatever weapon suits your style, whether you like pure offense, great defense, a combo of the two, or finesse.
