defenders stand a chance against a berserker in the rights (they can win, but they have to be a hell of a lucky or more skilled than a berserker). Scouts possibly have a better chance but are still outgunned in the rights - you will get comparable damage from critical hit as they will with deathblows (thats with crappy base gear) and deathblows are automatic.

they are more fair (eg assassins have massive advantage in most cases - Ive fought as an assassin in the rites as well as a warrior)

this is talking soley on the fighting part of the rites.
