In Reply to: Is there any possible way to play this game without being in some sort of icq or irc circle? Or having somekind of 'inside' knowledge on gameplay? I'm feeling the answer is no. no text posted by A Newbie Player Lost in the Dust on November 24, 2000 at 19:25:43:

You bring up a good point, in that there is a significant learning curve to being able to move about easily in the CF world. In my experience, it has mainly to do with learning the different areas.

However, most things can be learned by asking other players in-game, or by gleaning this knowledge from groupmates. Through grouping you should learn all the areas where people usually go to rank for your level/alignment. As you advance, you'll learn the areas for higher levels.

As for equipment, you can always ask people where they found things if you don't recognize them. They may not be willing to answer, but most usually are.

Now, being able to PK other players will take some time, since you have to be familiar with the skills and spells of all the different classes, in order to know how to best combat them. But you should be able to enjoy CF without being a 'seek & destroy' sort, so don't worry about it...

When you see hear someone mention a place or item you don't recognize, just ask them *in character* and they're generally fairly helpful.
