The addition of hidden locations for things such as barrier wands doesn't help... but the answer is generally yes. Just keep your eyes open and learn the game's mechanics... everything else is transient.

Oh, and since one of my posts wouldn't be complete without some sort of self-promotion, I killed Llorenthos' assassin solo with my first hero, so there! (Okay fine, I was an arbiter and he was wanted, but I still did it!)
