In Reply to: Is there any possible way to play this game without being in some sort of icq or irc circle? Or having somekind of 'inside' knowledge on gameplay? I'm feeling the answer is no. no text posted by A Newbie Player Lost in the Dust on November 24, 2000 at 19:25:43:

There are a few things you will have to give up though:

1) You will not log in with a deathsquad prepped for your pk range. You will have to group and form any deathsquads you want.

2) Eastern Road. It's just not worth the con-loss. Learn other ways around through trial and error. The Theran maps are actually pretty decent on this. Look in adjacent areas for connecting pathways.

3) It will take longer to learn things. This is because you will actually learn them. If someone is handing you the answers, one day you will be at a level beyond them. What then? This doesn't mean you shouldn't ask questions, but take anything you are told with a grain of salt until you can prove it for yourself.

4) You will have to remember that contrary to popular belief, being a PK fiend is not the end all/be all of carrionfields. If you think it is, you're missing the point. Yes, if you chuckled at the first sentence, this means you.

Other than that, it's a good time to be had by all. I've only known 2 people ooc who played the game. One was the guy who introduced me to it, who I havent spoken to in over 2 years. The other is my wife, and as we only have one dial up we can't exactly multichar. (Finally got her hooked on CF. ;-) )

Good luck, and enjoy the game!

Randy
