Well, since no one else answered(and I know what it feels like to have no one respond), the first thing I will say is forum search on this topic is really good(I did it when I started my 'Current Assassin' as well as I asked a couple of questions).

Secondly, the there are two main ways opinions are showed on the topic.

A) The first and foremost most important thing is...

(got ya hanging dont I? ;p)

Does drow best fit your role?(not surprised are ya?)
Every race has their good and bad things but most importantly is how you play them and what race you have a story for your character for.

B) If you are talking statwise, you must take in the several good and bad points about the class.

Good points:
-Learn quickly(24int is nice)
-Good dodging(24dex ties for the second most)
-Evil(so other evils will often ask you to group)
-Can go underwater unlike 2 of the more popular choices(arial and felar)

Bad points:
-Mithril weakness
-sneak not really needed since you can learn it
-16con(not much hp)
-Evil(So goods will know to hunt you)(and you are a natural enemy of Sylvan)
-18str(almost all other races have more strength except felar)
-high exp penalty combined with the penalty for making an assassin

My suggestion, look at the first part, decide what role you want..see what race best fits it. Imms reward those who roleplay well so any reward could negate some of the bad points of drows. Next, look into how much time you have to spend on your character, if you dont want to wait a while to learn..drow could be the choice for you. And last but not least, do a forum search and look for the strengths and weaknesses of each of the classes.

Good hunting,
Current Assassin.
