Charisma does not equate to physical beauty alone. An individual can have a commanding presence, and be respected and admired without being 'beautiful'. You can roleplay your charisma however you want - either as a result of physical beauty or something else.

Having Thera full of charismatic and/or beautiful people is no more ridiculous than the fact that Thera is full of people being as wise, intelligent, hearty, etc that they can possibly be.

Personally, I'd prefer a point based system where people are forced to choose between being strong in some stats at the expense of being weak in others, but that's just me. :)
