It is not realism
it is pseudo-realism

Your morale based on stats, not on your role.

If you let's say want to roleplay a brave crazy gnome
or you want to roleplay a wimpy whining gnome
in first case you expect him to have higher morale in changelling fights
compared with the second case (in the same fights)
but in the mud you will have the same morale in both cases.
There are many similiar examples.
the computer dictates your feelings, not your roleplaying.
You simple can't code realistic morale (based on the situation
and your role) because you can't code AI.

It is just another "stat" and eventually people would learn
to deal with it. And there will be a period of balancind/debuggin this morale stat.
If help file on morale would be good written this period will not be very long.
in a case of vague helpfile, this period will be much longer
because players will spend a lot of time trying to figure out
how it works before discovering unbalanced features and bugs.
