You're a ranger, you almost always suprise the heck out of people you attack (camo/ambush).

Because the person is suprised, they usually fight for a minute ... long enough to notice they aren't prepared and you are ... then about gushing/writhing they decide to run for it.

They flee, run, and suddenly get demolished/devasted and killed by a lightning bolt from the sky.

I've done this a few times with my ranger, it works best against arials.
