Nepenthe said: As far as I know, all spells are straight up percentile checks for the purposes of whether you will cast the spell or lose
concentration.

Death_Claw said: They aren't, otherwise logically you could cast 'detect invis' 100 times and it would only fail 25 times out of that 100, which is not the case. Similarly if you had assassinate at
75%, you should be able to kill anyone with it 75% of the time, but that's not quite how it works. My guess is that it is tweaked for better game balance, not to screw the
players. Not to mention why would there be a luck stat, or for that matter, Magical resistances, saving throws etc..

My opinions here on out:
1) I agree that casting 'detec invis' on yourself should represent the RNG at work.
Note to self: Watch Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead coin-flipping scenes again.
2) Assassinate is not a spell. Skills do get tweaked.
3) I've never -seen- luck in spellcasting, only skills, but I'm luck-challenged.
4) Once a spells is successfully cast (concentration not lost), THEN resistances and saves come into play. The RNG determines if you get the spell off, resistances and saves influence the affect of the spell (nothing, full effect, reduced effect)

The above opinions are subject to change depending on reality.
The purpose of this post was clarification, not to be nitpicky.
