> I respect Trewyn for wanting only the best in the village, but I think he's going about it in a very wrong way. Nobody wants to sit through 5 labor intensive interviews, INCLUDING the people that are doing the interviewing. It's hard enough trying to find one friggin' rager that will take a break from Eastern Road and talk, let alone five. No, he's going about it all wrong. Instead of having other people who might A)not be fit for the job, B)not want the job, or C)not have enough "time" for the job, doing his interviewing for him, HE should do the majority of it...HE'S the LEADER. If he wants a village elder to share some of the work-load that's fine, but he better be for DAMN sure that that village elder wants to do it, because this getting recommendations from people who never wanna sit and talk is bullshit...but I digress... > As it is now his recommendations will not increase the quality of the ragers in the village, it will kill the village. Not even the best interviewee wants to sit through 6 total interviews or whatever you need to do to get recommendations. I'm sure if you were to kill a mage that was raiding the village you'd probably be worthy of a recommendation, but let's face it...half the playerbase isn't smart enough to send that recommendation in written form to the leader and then you play the CF version of phone tag. Any schmuck off the street could get one lucky pk and get the recommendation for it...does that increase rager quality? Ummmmmmmm....NOPE. > So...if I were village leader and I wanted only the best I wouldn't use this system that he's using. I'd put them through my own rigorous exercises. Put them through MY OWN lengthy interviews asking difficult questions that can't necessarily be prepared for. Dig deep into the person's role, by doing so you force them to flesh it out. The single best way to make sure only the best get inducted is to turn those that aren't the best away. I don't like playing the asshole and I'm sure most people don't, but you have to know when to say "No". > Most of these requirements he has put forth don't mean dick shit when it comes to player quality. Master 6 songs by rank 20? Are there six songs worth mastering before rank 20? Do you have any idea how fucking long it would take to master the ones that ARE worth mastering without using slow scrolls and whatnot? The ability to bot songs/skills up to 100% does not mean the character is worthy of induction. I've talked enough...here's what I'd do as a village leader. > 1) Set level restrictions higher. Rank 30 or 35. This does a number of things. A) It shows that they can survive without cabal powers B) It goes further to showing that they're devoted to the cause C)It allows them more time to flesh out their role and D)Gives them ample time to practice their shit just by ranking. > 2) Utilize mobs to measure their fighting prowess/smart tactic use. Make them fight a mob that is at least razor-sharp teeth to them. This allows you to see how well they fight, whether or not they know how to use their repertoire effectively, etc. If they die it doesn't necessarily mean that they're to be turned away, it just means that they need to work harder in the future. > 3) Subject them to in-depth interviews that go beyond battlerager dogma, but also makes sure that they know what the village is about. They should've read up on the history of the village, etc, but they should also know who they are and why they want to be a villager. Discourage cookie-cutter answers. Ask questions like "What does your mother think of your becoming a villager?" "Do you have siblings who also want to become villagers?" Things that they wouldn't necessarily prepare for in advance and that make them think on the spot. > 4) Put them through scenarios. As far as I know the Arbiters are the only ones that use scenarios effectively. Some good scenarios to ask them about would be "If a conjurer w/o servitors is fighting a villager, should you assist the villager in the fight by attacking the conjurer?" If you really want the best and they answer any of the scenarios wrong tell them to come back after they've gained 5 ranks. Re-ask the scenario, if they still get it wrong tell them they're not worthy of the village and be done with it. You should make sure that they show courage in answering their scenarios. If they beat around the bush it means they're pussies and probably shouldn't be in the village anyhow. You want quick and right answers and you want to feel like their answers were quick and right because their role dictates that to them, not because they've had umpteen villagers before. >
> Yadda yadda yadda, rethink your requirements they're bullshit and this is coming from somebody that is playing a village enemy.
