How you describe the contest is not how I remember it at all -- which is not to say you're wrong, merely that our memories differ.

I remember how nervous I was about that contest, thinking that my entry wasn't as good as (apparently) everyone else thought it was. (Not that it was bad or anything; this was fear and insecurity talking -- something that happens to every creator.) I distinctly remember the high I felt when I was named the winner, and I didn't think it happened the next day, but as you say, it was a long time ago, and maybe I'm the one remembering it incorrectly.

Knowing both Shea and Poetry as I do (I still talk to Shea from time to time, despite that he's long gone from CF), I can't believe that either one of them deliberately slighted you. They're both genuinely nice people, and I doubt that they'd purposely screw anyone over, ever.

Now I'm going to have to talk to people and see what they remember, just because I'm curious. I'd love to hear more details from you, if you felt like it; send me an e-mail, and maybe you'll job my memory.
