How much and what you loot is very dependent on roleplay. IC, for anyone(save imperial) there can be a reason to return loot, if you choose to use it. If you're evil, for instance, you are showing your domination. "I'm so much better than you, I'm not even afraid to let you have your things back." If you're neutral/evil, a lesson "You can have your things back this time, I'm making an exception, but this had bettern ot happen again". If you're good(save for Marans) There's always mercy to draw upon.
For me it depends who has died. Etherich(master) attacks me out of the blue, never seen him before. I took everything. I hunted Chalin(rager) down and killed him, we have a history of conflict, I let him have everything I didn't need. A basic question I ask is "Who initiated the fight?" "How do I feel about this person IC?" and "Would they do the same to me?"
