Some points I forgot to mention in the original post:

1) The impetus for this thread was *not* my getting PKed. Rather, it was that, for the first time, I'm actually able to PK *other* people. For the vast majority of my CF life I've been prey for more skilled players. Finally I'm able to do some agressing of my own, and I'm finding that I feel really shitty when I loot stuff that I don't need. Maybe I have an overactive conscience or something.

2) The Imperial thing was just an example and was purely hypothetical. It should be obvious that I've never played one before since I had no idea about the 'donation' deal. Putting two and two together, I take it all members of the Empire must donate regularly or get the boot. Makes sense.

3) I'm not against PKing. I'm not against looting. I'm not even against sac'ing things if there is a RP reason for it (Ragers, Maran, etc.) Evils and fanatics, i.e. most cabaled folk, are prone to kill, and that's more than fine. But I can't help thinking that if you kill someone and take their really "nice" things then you've already done enough damage for one day. No reason to rub it in further unless you have a personal vendetta against the person (which, I admit, many people do have).

4) Another gripe about killing - it seems like many people take the attitude that the best way to advance one's cabal "cause" is to kill everyone that disagrees. Does this strike anyone as odd? Maybe it's just me, but it seems like *talking* to your opponents would be a much more effective means to spread your particular view. Empire actually does a decent job of this, since they usually "invite" you to join after you get whacked. There should be much more of this from all the different cabals. Just a pet peeve of mine.
