I don't really understand the purpose of difficult practice at all for any class. Skill in pk really is not (and I hope is not supposed to be) about percentage in skills, though it sure helps. To me it is more interesting to fight an opponent who does not fail crucial skills and has an idea how to use them.

As for the current state of things.. it really is boring to master all invoker spells, but it is REALLY interesting when you've got them all. And if we can't change the current state of things it is up to you to decide is the time spent on it really worth it.
