And I'll wager that you weren't the only one doing damage, so you probably got off 2-4 spells per fight. That's not that much practice. With my invoker, I'd slow down with ranking (group with lower level people) and fight larger quantities of mobs. There are a lot of good practice areas that ragers can't/won't travel to, just explore. And if you're still getting hammered every time you settle down to practice, then delete this character, roll up a rager, and learn it from the other side. Then you'll be ready to play a mage.
