I'm under the impression that Jordan is simply drawing this out to play for his kid's college, because he certainly isn't concentrating on making a good story.

Ah well, that's just me. Tolkien is still the one that others are measured by. Might not be the best storyteller or writer, but the Rings is still the standard.
