These were the first two fantasy series I read, when I was a kid... like... 13 years ago? and they're what got me hooked on the genre. That and the The Dark is Rising trilogy, which was just thoroughly awesome. Anyone else ever read that?

Same here. I actually bought Eye of the World after playing CF, to learn more about the Jordan mythos that's all over the place in the game. I made it about halfway through, I think. Once I'd read a bit about Shadar Logoth, Whitecloaks, and Aes Sedai, I figured I knew all I needed to. :P

Is it me, or was Sword of Shannara a condensed and very slightly altered version of the LotR trilogy? He moved into semi-original ground with the next 5 (6?) books, but the first one was the biggest fantasy ripoff job I've ever seen.
