Trying to convince people who feel extremely strongly about certain topics that they shouldn't be forced down everyone's throat is a hard sell, even if its completely rational and practical. People believe something that is right to them is unequivocally right for everyone else and any compromise that lets others act in a way that disagrees with their belief is a deal breaker.
