So, how does the game do combat? How are units matched up? Is my best unit put against whoever it would do best with, when it attacks? Or is the best defender chosen? How do you know who will actually face who?

For example, let's say I have a horsie, an axeman and a spearman, attacking. How is it decided who will fight which defenders?

And how do heroes work into this?
