The only time anything will go to the pit is if you aren't online when your corpse decays.

The change helps newbies out more than anyone else, since its pretty rare than anyone that knows what they're doing would leave their corpse to decay instead of going to pick it up. And again, if you rage delete or just quit out, your stuff goes to the pit anyways.
