I base it on the fact that vets have been playing CF for a long time. Newbies come and go. I mean by definition newbies are new. None of them have been playing CF very long. Vets, like myself, have been playing CF for decades in some cases.
But, that doesn't put us at odds as far as changes. I want more players. Anything that I honestly think will attract/retain new players (without changing what I love about the game beyond recognition) is a change I am all for. But, change comes very slow at CF. The IMMs are committed to the game to varying degrees. They are slow to give up authority when their interest wanes. I don't think their communication among themselves is very good or timely. Also, they don't have the ability or authority to code in many cases. Lastly, they are very reluctant to let young IMMs touch the code.
Some changes I'd like to see that I think would make CF more newbie-friendly:
1) Change the anti-gank code to stop protecting people who's PK ratio is above a certain level. It was designed to protect the weak from roving death squads, not protect a one-person death squad from the multitude of enemies he's made through PKing or full-looting.
2) Lower the power ceiling on certain classes. Maybe undead and definitely APs. There should never be an class without some sort of ceiling.
3) Expand the on-line item DB to include limited (non-explore area) items. There could still be some restrictions like maybe instead of area for said item, list continent/subterranean/etc.
4) No exp loss for mob-deaths below L 15.
5) Big one: Link to the CF community pages from the CF welcome screen when you log in and the official forum. That includes this site and the DIKU page. People in game ask me for directions sometimes and I'm thinking to myself "Jeez. This person doesn't know there are maps on almost every area in CF online".
6) Allow shapeshifters to choose their forms. Then, someone exploring the class doesn't have to hero 5 characters to play a form they want. If they are so unbalanced that everyone goes for the same forms, then balance them. We don't assign warriors random legacies or weapon specs or thieves random paths.
7) IMMs should be more helpful and responsive on the official forum.
